SS97 "Body Meets Dress, Dress Meets Body" Deformed Skirt
Comme des Garçons Spring/Summer 1997 "Body Meets Dress, Dress Meets Body" Deformed Skirt in Black
The Deformed Skirt is a form-fitting, maxi-length silhouette crafted from a polyester-blend jersey with a hint of stretch. Originating from Rei Kawakubo’s seminal "lumps and bumps" collection, the piece departs from standard symmetrical paneling and A-line construction. The pattern expands into a boomerang-like crescent shape when laid flat, featuring a tapered side alongside a body that flares and extends outward on a sweeping diagonal angle. This geometry forces the fabric to wrap dynamically around the lower body, creating an anatomical distortion. Structural seams run along biased, maintaining tension and drape and allowing the skirt to collapse into organic, body-contouring folds when worn.
