Founded initially as an online archive in 2020, commune was built on a shared appreciation for design discipline, material history, and object provenance. After four years of operating exclusively in digital spaces, the physical showroom was established in June 2024 in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown.

As digital consumption accelerates, the relationship between wearer and garment has become increasingly abstract. We believe design cannot be fully understood through a screen. A garment’s true value resides in its weight, construction, drape, and texture, qualities that reveal themselves only when seen, felt, and worn in person. commune is designed as an exercise in slow observation: a platform to study, contextualize, and collect pieces that honor the legacy of independent and archival design.

Located in Vancouver’s Chinatown, the commune showroom brings our digital catalog into a physical context. The space operates as both a retail destination and an informal study room, bringing together curated garments, design objects, and rare print media under one roof.

• Archival Garments & Wearables: Selected pieces available exclusively for in-person fitting.
• Print & Periodicals: A dedicated archive of vintage fashion publications, Japanese design magazines, and out-of-print reference catalogues.
• In-Store Exclusives: Rotating selections of objects and studio projects available exclusively in-store.
